Dr. David Silverman, MD, Esq., is a board-certified comprehensive ophthalmologist at Carroll Vision Center who provides medical and surgical eye care. His focus includes the treatment and management of glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration, and with over 30 years of experience, he is also skilled in diagnosing and treating a vast range of other ocular conditions. He offers a wide array of advanced techniques including SLT, intravitreal injections, and YAG laser to help patients achieve optimal vision and long-term eye health.
Dr. Silverman received his Bachelor of Science degree in Cellular Molecular Biology from Humboldt State University, graduating magna cum laude, and earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School where he graduated with Honors and earned the Mansbach Scholarship “for Academic Excellence in the Basic Sciences.” He completed an internal medicine internship at Greater Baltimore Medical Center followed by his ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch. In addition to his medical training, he earned a Juris Doctor degree magna cum laude from the University of Baltimore School of Law.
He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and holds multiple active medical licenses. Throughout his career, Dr. Silverman has performed thousands of surgical procedures, including cataract surgery and laser treatments, and has served in leadership roles as a clinical instructor, medical director, and consultant supporting innovation in ophthalmology as well as in telemedicine.
Dr. Silverman is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Maryland Society of Eye Physicians & Surgeons. Outside of clinical practice, he contributes his expertise to quality assurance and medical management initiatives and remains committed to advancing patient-centered ophthalmic care.
Teaching is a large part of Dr. Silverman’s approach to medicine and patient care. He holds firmly to the belief that educating patients about their disease is the best way to alleviate unnecessary anxiety and fear, and he teaches in such a way that his patients understand all of their options. Additionally, he believes that teaching patients and their families about their ocular condition helps to empower them and allows them to become active participants in their treatment process.
Outside of work, Dr. Silverman is a fitness enthusiast and he is also an accomplished musician who has performed semi-professionally for many decades.
